German auto giant Volkswagen reduced the prices of its flagship SUV Taigun in April. The carmaker has made its SUV, which rivals the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta, cheaper by more than Rs 1 lakh this month.

Volkswagen has said that the reduced price of Taigun will be applicable for a limited time. Volkswagen Taigun, the safest SUV in India, is available at a starting price of Rs 11.70 lakh before the price cut. The price goes up to Rs 20 lakh for the top-spec variant.

According to the official website of Volkswagen, the carmaker is offering a discount of Rs 70,000 on the entry-level variant of the Taigun SUV. The new starting price of the SUV is Rs 11 lakh (ex-showroom). Its Comfortline variant is equipped with a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine and comes with a manual gearbox.

The cost of the Taigun SUV's mid-variant, which is marketed as GT Line Chrome and has a 1.5-litre engine with a DSG gearbox, has also decreased. This variant ranged in price from ₹19.44 lakh to ₹19.74 lakh (ex-showroom). Volkswagen has lowered this variant's price by Rs 1.05 lakh. Right now, it costs Rs 18.70 lakh (ex-showroom). Prior to this, the top-spec GT Plus Edge was priced (ex-showroom) at ₹19.70 lakh to ₹20 lakh. The current price has dropped by approximately ₹1.10 lakh to ₹18.90 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Volkswagen Taigun comes with two different engine options. There is a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a 1.0-litre TSI engine that is smaller. The bigger engine can produce 148 bhp of power and 250 Nm of peak torque. The 1.0-litre unit can generate 113 bhp power and 178 Nm peak torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 6-speed manual gearbox, 6-speed torque converter or a 7-speed DSG unit.
