At the age of just 16, Indian player Jiya Rai created history. Jiya Rai holds the record for becoming the youngest para swimmer to cross the English Channel at the Paris Olympics 2024. She achieved this special feat on 28-29 July. Jiya is not only the youngest but has also become the fastest para swimmer in the world.
Jiya swam across the English Channel from Abbots Cliff in England to Point de la Cour-d'Anne in France in 17 hours and 25 minutes. During this time, she swam a distance of 34 km.
In fact, Jiya Rai is a resident of Mumbai and suffers from autism spectrum disorder. She is the daughter of Madan Rai, who is serving as MC-at-Arms in Mumbai. The Western Naval Command (WNC) congratulated this young para swimmer on this important achievement.
