Kolkata Knight Riders Defeat Gujarat Titans by 29 Runs in IPL 2026 Clash
Gujarat Titans Fall Short Despite Half-Centuries from Jos Buttler and Sai Sudharsan

In the 70th match of IPL 2026, the Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Gujarat Titans by 29 runs. Batting first, KKR posted a mammoth total of 247 runs for the loss of two wickets in 20 overs. In response to the target of 248 runs, Gujarat Titans could only manage 218 runs. Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill played brilliant innings in this match. Jos Buttler also scored a half-century, but the team failed to win. Shubman Gill then revealed the real reason for the defeat.

In this match, when KKR was batting, the Gujarat Titans players dropped several catches. After the match, Shubman Gill criticized the players, saying that a score of 200-210 was acceptable considering the wicket, but we dropped too many catches.

He said, "The pitch was good. The ball was coming in with a stop at times, but I felt we batted well and the score we made was good. There's nothing to worry about, but our fielding could be even better. We have set a standard. We didn't deserve to win this match after dropping three easy catches." Shubman Gill also said that it's better to have such matches now, before the qualifiers.

Kolkata Knight Riders batted first in this match. Ajinkya Rahane once again failed, scoring just 14 runs. But then, thanks to Finn Allen's destructive 93 off 35 balls, followed by half-centuries from Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Cameron Green, KKR posted a score of 247. Angkrish scored 82 off 44 balls, while Cameron Green smashed 52 off 28 balls. KKR's innings featured 22 sixes.

Chasing the target of 248, Gujarat Titans got off to a poor start. First, Sai Sudarshan was dismissed after a short innings, and then Nishant Sindhu was dismissed for just one run. However, Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler took charge and took the team past 170. Subsequently, Shubman Gill, Jos Buttler, and Rahul Tewatia were dismissed in quick succession, leaving the team 29 runs short of the target. Meanwhile, Sai Sudarshan returned to the crease and scored a half-century, but could not lead the team to victory.

This is the Gujarat Titans' fifth defeat of the season, and they are in second place in the points table with 16 points. They now play their final match against the Chennai Super Kings on May 21st. However, their playoff berth is almost certain.
