Wood was injured during the first Test against Sri Lanka and consequently ruled out of the second and third Tests of the series. Medical scans revealed an injury to Wood's right elbow. Mark Wood felt stiffness and discomfort in his elbow during the Test series against the West Indies in early summer," the ECB said in a statement. Wood had been bowling trouble during the first Test against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford in Manchester.
The ECB added that Wood also sustained an injury to his right thigh during that Test match, which is being treated and he is recovering with no issues from it.
He will continue to work closely on his rehab with the ECB medical team," read a statement. He will also not be part of the Test tour of Pakistan in October and New Zealand in December. Wood will stay associated with the medical team of the England Cricket Board.
