Vijaypat Singhania, former chairman of the Raymond Group, passed away in Mumbai at the age of 87. He built a vast textile empire. His life was marked by success and a dispute with his son, Gautam Singhania, over the JK House property.
Vijaypat Singhania, a former head of the Raymond Group, passed away in Mumbai on March 28, 2026, at the age of 87. The funeral will take place on March 29, 2026, at the Chandanwadi crematorium. Singhania was an industrialist known for his successful textile business empire. However, there was also a family feud with his son, Gautam Singhania. The family also owns one of India’s most expensive homes, a subject that has caused much controversy.
JK House is a 30-story luxurious building in Breach Candy in Mumbai, while Mukesh Ambani’s Antilia has 27 floors. JK House costs around ₹6,000 crore and belongs to Gautam Singhania, chairman of the Raymond Group. It is India's second most expensive residential building, featuring a private helipad and five car parks. This property has been the subject of controversy between father Vijaypat and son Gautam.
Before being redeveloped, JK House was a 14-story building built on 1 acre of land in Breach Candy, Mumbai, in the 1960s. It served as the residence and office of the Singhania family (promoters of Raymond), but by 2007, it was deemed structurally unsafe, leading to the decision to rebuild it.
