The issues of passengers boarding unreserved tickets at New Delhi Railway Station and other major stations will be addressed. Such passengers will now receive tickets at the gate itself prior to arriving at the platform. Mobile-Unreserved Ticket System (M-UTS) vendors will be stationed at railway stations for the ease of passengers. Railways is set to launch it as a pilot project from New Delhi Railway Station. After going through its results, it will be installed at other stations. Through this system, passengers traveling without tickets will also be prevented.

As a matter of fact, there is a queue of passengers at the unreserved ticket counter of busy stations like New Delhi. Except during the busy time, this queue is busier during the festival and holidays. Railways have now installed Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) at railway stations to control this crowd. Despite this, the problem is not getting resolved. Therefore, M-UTS will now be installed at railway stations. This will solve the problems of passengers. M-UTS is a mobile-like machine. It also has a small printer. With this, unreserved tickets will be provided to the passenger on the spot by asking for their destination. They will not have to stand in line in front of the counter or ATVM to buy tickets.

Railways had given this machine to TTEs in Prayagraj during the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, so that they could provide tickets to passengers inside the train. Now preparations are on to give this service into private hands. The Railway administration has invited applications for the appointment of M-UTS assistants at New Delhi Railway Station. Their selection process will be completed by next month. After that, they will be trained and deployed at the station. They will get a commission on each ticket.

Railways says that this arrangement will be convenient for the passengers. They will not have to stand in line at the counter or in front of the ATVM for tickets. Apart from providing convenience to passengers, this will also help in preventing ticketless travel. Passengers will be checked before reaching the platform. Those without tickets will be provided with tickets on the spot. This will generate revenue for the railways and help in reducing the crowd on the platform. This is also important from a security point of view as it will prevent unauthorized people from entering the platform.
