AUS vs SA WTC Final 2025: In the final of the World Test Championship 2025, South Africa's Kagiso Rabada took 5 wickets in Australia's first innings and bundled out the Kangaroos for 212 runs in the first innings.
Top-ranked Test side Australia crumbled for 212 runs in front of the ferocious bowling by Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen at Lord's on Wednesday. During the first inning, 5 wickets went in the name of Kagiso Rabada and 3 wickets in the name of Marco Jansen. The top run-scorer for Australia was Beau Webster who was a victim of Kagiso Rabada and was out on 72 runs. Australia's Usman Khawaja, Cameron Green, Webster, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc were sent back to the pavilion by Kagiso Rabada. In this match, Steve Smith created a new record as soon as he scored a half-century. He fell prey to Aiden Markram after scoring 66 runs.
While this was going on in the subcontinent, Australia's Steve Smith established a new record as a visiting batsman with the most runs scored in Test cricket at the historic Lord's Cricket Ground on the first day of the World Test Championship final against South Africa. During his innings of 66 runs with the help of ten fours in 112 balls, Smith surpassed his fellow Australian Warren Bardsley's record of 575 runs in seven innings at an average of 115. He achieved this great feat on this ground, historically considered as the 'Mecca of Cricket'.
Smith also surpassed legendary batsman Don Bradman, who scored 551 runs in his eight innings at Lord's. Before the 2025 WTC Final, the 36-year-old Smith had hit three fifties and two centuries at the historic venue, including the highest individual score of 215 during the second Ashes Test against England in 2015. With the 66-run knock, Smith now has four centuries and a half-century in his last six Tests for Australia. That crucial innings also ensured that Smith became the first and only batsman to score more than a half-century in the WTC Final multiple times.
