Pakistan Threatens to Withdraw From ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026
ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026: Following Bangladesh, Pakistan is now threatening to withdraw from the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi has spoken about boycotting the tournament.
As the start date for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 is approaching, the controversy surrounding the World Cup is also on the rise. First and foremost, the ICC has turned down Bangladesh's terms and demands, thus ending their chances to play in the tournament, and Scotland has been added to the tournament instead. Now, Pakistan has issued a threat to withdraw from the World Cup altogether.
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi made these remarks during a media interaction. Naqvi not only criticized the ICC's decision but also said that what happened to Bangladesh was wrong. He said, "I had also said during the ICC board meeting that you cannot have double standards. You are making a different decision for one country and a different decision for another. Bangladesh should play the World Cup under all circumstances. It is a major stakeholder. No country can dictate to anyone. There should be no injustice towards Bangladesh."
Naqvi then said that Bangladesh should be played on a hybrid model. He said, "If a hybrid model was adopted with Pakistan in the case of India, then the same should be done with Bangladesh. If the ICC continues this behavior, Pakistan will also take a decision. Let the decision come out once it is announced; we have a plan."

It should be noted that Pakistan has been placed in Group A of the T20 World Cup 2026 along with India, Namibia, the Netherlands, and the United States. While the ICC has released an updated schedule following Bangladesh's elimination, there's room for another change if Pakistan is also eliminated. However, if nothing changes, Pakistan will play its first match against the Netherlands in Colombo on February 7th. Following this, it will play its second match against the United States of America, also in Colombo.
Pakistan will be facing India in a high-voltage match on the 15th of February. Pakistan will be playing its last group stage match against Namibia on the 18th of February. In case Pakistan qualifies in the top two in the group stage, it will automatically qualify for the Super 8, or else it will be eliminated from the tournament itself.
