Ola Electric has launched its new S1 range of electric scooters. That is developed over its new Generation 3 platform. There will be eight scooters in the range, beginning with the S1 Pro+, then the S1 Pro, then the S1 X, and the S1 X+. All of them will have a range of battery packs to choose from. There will be a new range of scooters with Ola's 'MoveOS 5' loaded in them. That is its new EV operating system. The maker will, in the meanwhile, retail its older Generation 2 scooters at a discount price.

The S1 Pro comes in two variants, one with a 3 kWh and one with a 4 kWh battery. There is a Pro + option with a 4 or 5.3 kWh battery pack. There is an S1X with 2, 3, and 4 kWh battery pack options. S1X+, in contrast, is an option with a 4 kWh battery pack only. As per Ola, the range for the Pro + is 320 km, and a top speed of 141 kmph

Earlier, scooters used to use belt drive. Now it has been replaced by a chain drive. This change has increased energy efficiency by 2 percent and acceleration by 10 percent. Apart from this, the life of the chain will be twice that of the belt drive. The torque should also be higher. Ola says that the chain will make as much noise as the belt drive.

It has a new powertrain. Now, all scooters will get a mid-drive electric motor. Compared to the hub motor, it is four times more energy efficient and five times more reliable. The new motor now integrates the MCU.

All vehicles based on the Gen 3 platform will use brake-by-wire. And they will get a single-channel anti-lock braking system. However, some vehicles will also get a dual-channel anti-lock braking system. Brake-by-wire will also help in increasing the driving range by up to 15 percent. Because it uses brake regeneration. This will also help in increasing the life of the brake pad.

The starting price of the Ola Generation 3 electric scooter is around Rs 1.75 lakh (ex-showroom). Which goes up to around Rs 1.75 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top variant.
