Uttar Pradesh will mark the climax of Shardiya Navratri with a full public holiday. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced that Maha Navami, the ninth day of the festival, will be observed as a holiday throughout the state. This year, Maha Navami falls on October 19.
Following the directive, government offices, educational institutions and other government establishments across Uttar Pradesh will remain closed for the day. The government said the decision was taken to provide relief to citizens and to ensure people can take part in religious events during the festival.
A Weekend That Stretches Into Monday
The timing matters. October 19 is a Monday, which means that for many students and employees the holiday joins up with the weekend. That creates a continuous festive stretch at a point in the calendar when Kanya Pujan, temple visits and family gatherings are at their peak. Families planning travel to their hometowns, or to major Devi temples across the state, now have more room to do so without taking leave.
