India's Airlines Cancel 26,000 Flights Amid West Asia Conflict, Government Tells Lok Sabha

There have been several safety advisories issued by the DGCA in view of the developments in West Asia. It was pointed out by Murlidhar Mohol that it becomes expensive for airlines owing to increased distance travelled and higher fuel usage. He mentioned that airlines have taken necessary measures to mitigate the impact.

Indian airlines have cancelled around 26,000 international flights up to July 20 due to the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran. Additionally, there have been flight diversions and delays. Responding to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said that airlines are facing substantial revenue losses due to this crisis and are taking measures to ensure the continuity of operations. The Minister noted that the conflict, which began in late February, has significantly impacted the airline industry. Airlines are grappling with high fuel costs as well as airspace restrictions in the West Asia region. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued several advisories to ensure the safety of passengers, crew, and aircraft in light of the developments in West Asia. It was stated that the rerouting of flights is increasing flight duration and fuel consumption, thereby driving up operational costs for airlines. Airlines have taken necessary measures to mitigate this impact.
