Five Indian fishermen injured in Sri Lankan Navy firing, India expressed displeasure; High Commissioner summoned
On Thursday, Sri Lanka lodged a strong protest against the firing by the Sri Lankan Navy while catching a group of Indian fishermen near Delft Island on Tuesday morning. Regarding this incident, the Ministry of External Affairs said that there were 13 fishermen on the fishing boat when the firing started. Two fishermen have suffered serious injuries in this firing.
Another flash point is the tension between India and Sri Lanka. On Tuesday the incident came to notice in which there was a firing done by the Sri Lankan Navy while catching near Delft Island to 13 Indian Fishermen present on a fishing boat.
In fact, Indian fishermen were fishing near Delft Island on Tuesday morning. During this time, the Sri Lankan Navy took the fishermen into custody and also fired at these fishermen. India on Thursday lodged a strong protest with Sri Lanka over the firing incident by the Sri Lankan Navy.
In response to the firing by the Sri Lankan Navy, the External Affairs Minister summoned the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in New Delhi. At the same time, strong protest was expressed over this incident. The statement said that the Indian High Commission in Colombo has also raised this matter with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Sri Lanka.
