Delhi-NCR Expansion Plan: Four New NaMo Cities Proposed to Reduce Pressure on Delhi, Noida and Gurugram

While describing the outcome of the meeting of the board, the Union Minister said that proposals have been asked to be submitted from the four states included in the NCR region, which include Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Rajasthan.

The selection of new cities will be done through a competition. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, along with the Urban Development Ministers of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, and senior officials from all states were present at the Board meeting.

The meeting also discussed the Regional Vision 2041 for the NCR. A subcommittee has also been formed to submit its report by August 15th. The Board's next meeting will now be held in December.

The Board also discussed enhancing environmentally friendly transportation facilities, expanding seamless connectivity between all NCR cities, and building a new RRTS network.

Haryana also proposed reducing the NCR area, but the Board rejected it. Furthermore, addressing Haryana's concerns, the Board agreed to divide the NCR into three zones. These will include the core zone as well as two other zones.

As such, pollution-related restrictions will only apply to the core zone. Discussions have been held regarding the implementation of partial restrictions in the remaining zones.

A sub-committee has been formed to address this issue, which will submit its report by August 15th. Importantly, all four cities in the NCR are currently under BJP rule.
