On the occasion of Diwali, three people lost their lives in a road accident in North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. Three bike-riding youths died after being hit by a speeding police vehicle in North 24 Parganas district. This accident happened in Bangaon. Some local people alleged that the driver of the police vehicle was under the influence of alcohol and was driving at high speed. Tension prevailed in the area after the accident with angry people claiming that accidents keep happening in the area due to speeding police vehicles. A police team from Bongaon police station reached the spot and pacified the protesting locals.
Aparajita Bandopadhyay, in charge of Bangaon Mahila police station, said police were present in the vehicle at the time of the accident late on Sunday night. Bandopadhyay claimed that it was not his vehicle but the motorcycle which was speeding. The bike itself hit his vehicle. He said that both he and his driver were injured in this accident.
The deceased youths have been identified as Tanmay Kritaniya, Sujit Halder, and Amit Majhi – all residents of Panchpota village under Gopalnagar police station. Their bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
