Whether Mohammed Shami will play in the Champions Trophy or not, he has tried to answer the Indian cricket fans with his performance. Earlier, when he was playing in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, it was still expected that he would be included in Team India in the middle of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series, but Rohit Sharma had said to wait till he was fully fit. However, Shami is continuously playing domestic cricket and is making a splash not only with bowling but also with the bat. In such a situation, his playing in the team to be selected for the Champions Trophy is considered certain.

Shami bowled magnificently in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Thursday against Haryana and took 3 wickets. Haryana is the defending champion of this tournament. Shami bowled the entire 10 overs and took 3 wickets for 61 runs. This performance has proved that he is fully fit and ready to return to the Indian team. Now, all that is to be seen is whether the selectors try him in the ODI series against England or send him directly into the Champions Trophy.

In the quarter-final, while it was the first quarter Haryana did not have a proper start, and openers Shami and Mukesh Kumar took all of them into the pavilion within 50. Half a century by Parth Vats and Nishant Sindhu along with their brilliant batting helped their team go past the score of 200. After their inning, Sumit Kumar along with Rahul Tewatia brought Haryana to nearly the score of 300. With this, in that quarter Shami took three wickets whereas Mukesh Kumar took two.

Chasing the target of 299 runs, Bengal had a good start and both the openers shared a 70-run partnership for the first wicket. After this, as soon as both the openers were out, Haryana bowlers wreaked havoc and bowled out the entire Bengal team for 226 runs. Haryana won the match by 72 runs. Parth Vats gave an all-round performance for Haryana took 3 wickets and played an important role in the team's victory. Apart from this, Nishant Sindhu and Anshul Kamboj took 2-2 wickets each.
