The fans of Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium went into a frenzy as the Blues thrashed Mohun Bagan Super Giant 3-0 in Indian Super League 2024-25 on a historic goal from Captain Sunil Chhetri. Spanish forward Edgar Mendez scored in the ninth, midfielder Suresh Singh Wagajam in the 20th, and Sunil Chhetri-on a penalty kick-in the 51st minute in Bengaluru FC's victory. Sunil scored his 64th goal and is now the all-time leading scorer of ISL, leaving behind the Nigerian striker Bartholomew Ogbeche with 63 goals. Edgar Mendez was declared Player of the Match as he scored the first goal of the match and showed brilliant game.

It was an explosive victory, and one could imagine a very happy Spanish head coach, Gerard Zaragoza, in charge of the Blues. Bengaluru FC have now jumped into the top of the points table from second with 9 points from three wins in three matches, while on the other hand, Spanish head coach Jose Molina will be very disappointed as the Mariners tasted defeat for the first time in the season. While Mohun Bagan Super Giant dropped to sixth in the table from fourth with four points from one win and one draw and one loss in three matches.

The first goal of the match came in the ninth minute, when Spanish forward Edgar Mendez gave Bengaluru FC an early lead, making the score 1-0. On a free-kick on the left flank, Spanish midfielder Alberto Noguera put the ball inside the box over the crowd of players towards the far post. Nikhil Pujari headed the ball and the ball bounced after bouncing, which Mendez put in the top right corner with his right foot from very close range. While Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith did not have much to do.

In the 20th minute, midfielder Suresh Singh Wagajam scored a goal, doubling Bengaluru FC's lead to 2-0. After reaching close to the goal line from the right side, Edgar Mendez put a cross from just outside the box, but forward Sunil Chhetri in front of the first post created an opportunity by putting an important touch on that pass before falling, on which Suresh came fast from behind and hit a powerful right footer shot and the ball went over the oncoming goalkeeper Vishal Kaith and got stuck in the goal net inside the right corner.

In the 51st minute, captain Sunil Chhetri scored a goal on a penalty kick, increasing Bengaluru FC's lead to 3-0. Bengaluru FC got this golden opportunity in the form of a penalty kick in the 50th minute when Spanish forward Edgar Mendez was pulled down from behind by center-back Dipendu Biswas inside his box and referee Aditya Purkayastha signaled a penalty kick by blowing a long whistle. After this, Chhetri scored a goal with a powerful right-footer shot inside the top left corner. While goalkeeper Vishal Kaith could not reach the ball even after diving to the right.
