The Pakistani cricket team will not be playing the upcoming Men's T20 World Cup match against India on February 15th at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The high-voltage match between the two countries was originally scheduled for February 15th at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, but the Pakistani government has granted the team permission to participate in the tournament with certain conditions. The government's statement did not provide a reason for this decision, but it is believed that the Pakistan Cricket Board will boycott the World Cup match against India to show solidarity with Bangladesh.

The Pakistani team, led by Salman Ali Agha, is placed in Group A for the 2026 T20 World Cup alongside India, Namibia, the Netherlands, and the USA. The Pakistani team will begin its campaign against the Netherlands in Colombo on February 7th. Pakistan captain Salman Agha has responded to the government's decision, stating that the team will do whatever the board and government say.

Agha told reporters after the third T20 match against Australia on Sunday, "We are going to the World Cup. It's not our decision not to play against India; we can't do anything. We will do whatever our government and the PCB chief tell us to do."

The Bangladesh Cricket Board had requested that its World Cup matches be moved out of India, citing security reasons, but the ICC refused to accept this demand. Consequently, Bangladesh was excluded from the T20 World Cup. Scotland has been included in Group C in its place.

The official 'X' account of the Pakistani government stated, "The Government of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan approves the participation of the Pakistan cricket team in the T20 World Cup 2026, but the Pakistan cricket team will not take the field for the match against India on February 15, 2026."

Earlier this week, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and announced that a final decision on Pakistan's participation would be made on January 30 or February 2. However, the final decision was announced a day earlier, creating a new problem for the tournament, as the high-voltage India-Pakistan match generates significant revenue. Pakistan also postponed the team's jersey launch for the Men's T20 World Cup. At the time, it was understood that the jersey launch event would take place after a decision on the team's participation in the upcoming tournament.
