India has ramped up the number of trials of its missiles after the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. A day before, the missile was successfully test-fired on INS Surat warship. Subsequent to this, India has successfully ground-tested the scramjet engine for over 1,000 seconds in a significant step in the development of next-generation station hypersonic missiles.

For the first time in India, the ground test for the cutting-edge active-cooled scramjet combustor was successfully conducted for 1000 seconds. This test has been viewed as a significant milestone towards enhancing the next-generation capabilities of India's hypersonic missile. Scramjet is a critical element of hypersonic missiles.

Hypersonic missiles are a category of advanced weapons that fly at speeds greater than Mach 5 (five times the speed of sound or more than 5400 km/h). All the major countries of the world are engaged in making these missiles because they can dodge existing missile and air defense systems. Their high speed, excellent control and ability to fly at low altitude are the special features of these missiles.

Scramjet engines are air-breathing engines, capable of maintaining combustion at supersonic speeds without using any moving parts.
