Growth rate of basic industries increased to 6.2%, due to better production of natural gas and electricity

The growth rate of the eight major basic industries of the country increased to 6.2 percent in April 2024.  The growth rate of these industries was recorded at 6 percent in March and 4.6 percent in April 2023.

According to official data released on Friday, the growth rate of basic industries has increased due to better production of natural gas, refinery products, and electricity.  The data shows that the growth rate of natural gas was 8.6 percent in April.  It was 6.1 percent in the same period a year ago. The growth rate of refinery products increased from 3.6 percent to 3.9 percent. During this period, the growth rate of production in the power sector increased to 9.4 percent.

The sector's growth rate was 7.1 percent in the same period last year. However, the growth rate of the coal industry has slowed to 7.5%. It was 9.1 percent in the same period last year. The steel industry's growth rate decreased from 16.6 percent to 7.1 percent. The cement industry's growth rate fell to 0.6 percent from 12.4 percent last year. Production growth in the cement sector fell to 0.6% from 9% the previous year.
