China has made a significant leap towards having a low-altitude economy. The Chinese Civil Aviation Authority (CAAC) has granted permission to use passenger drones autonomously commercially for the very first time. It has paved the way for initiating air taxi service in China.

China's Aviation Authority has granted an Air Operator Certificate to EHang Holdings and Hefei Hey Airlines, as reported by media outlets. The two airlines will now be in a position to provide sightseeing tours over urban centers using pilotless drone taxis. The decision came after the two firms reached safety and technical requirements

EHang company has developed a state-of-the-art electric air taxi called EH216-S. Recently, the video of the testing of this air taxi is become very viral on social media. It is a two-seater drone taxi equipped with 16 propellers, which can fly up to a height of 3,000 meters at a speed of 100 km/h. It is considered a revolutionary step for airport transfer, tourism, and urban transportation.

The Chinese government is promoting low-altitude flights to adopt this new technology on a wide scale. The government believes that this sector will play an important role in the country's economic growth in conjunction with cutting-edge technologies like quantum computing, artificial intelligence, and 6G networks.

According to experts, this move of China will give a new direction to the global air taxi market. Work is also going on rapidly in this field in America, Europe, and other countries. Research is also going on in India regarding flying taxis, but it may take time to start.
