Green hydrogen trucks will run on 10 highways of India, a big step by the government
Highway: The government has announced to run green hydrogen trucks on 10 highway routes across the country. Indian Oil and Reliance Petroleum will build hydrogen stations. Big truck manufacturers like Tata, Ashok Leyland and Volvo also joined.

On Tuesday, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the government has identified 10 such highway routes across the country, where trucks running on green hydrogen will run. This step aims to reduce rising vehicle pollution.
Further, Gadkari added that Indian Oil and Reliance Petroleum will build hydrogen filling stations on these highway routes. Apart from this, big vehicle manufacturers like Tata Motors, Ashok Leyland, and Volvo have already started work towards making hydrogen trucks.
The identified highway routes include Greater Noida-Delhi-Agra, Bhubaneshwar-Puri-Konark, Ahmedabad-Vadodara-Surat, Sahibabad-Faridabad-Delhi, Jamshedpur-Kalinganagar, Thiruvananthapuram-Kochi and Jamnagar-Ahmedabad, among others.
Gadkari said that climate change is the biggest challenge facing India today. If India has to become a $5 trillion economy and the third-largest economy in the world, we will have to further strengthen our infrastructure.
He also said that India has the potential to become the world's largest green hydrogen exporter. He also expressed confidence that the country's logistics cost will come down to single digit by December this year.
The minister said that studies conducted by IIM Bangalore, IIT Chennai and IIT Kanpur have revealed that India's road logistics cost has come down by 6 percent. Earlier this cost was 14-16 percent in India, while it was 8 percent in China and 12 percent in the US and European Union.
Gadkari also said that the government's goal is to make India's automobile industry number one in the world in the next 5 years.
