Five Indian fishermen injured in Sri Lankan Navy firing, India expressed displeasure; High Commissioner summoned

In fact, Indian fishermen were fishing near Delft Island on Tuesday morning. During this time, the Sri Lankan Navy took the fishermen into custody and also fired at these fishermen. India on Thursday lodged a strong protest with Sri Lanka over the firing incident by the Sri Lankan Navy.
In response to the firing by the Sri Lankan Navy, the External Affairs Minister summoned the Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in New Delhi. At the same time, strong protest was expressed over this incident. The statement said that the Indian High Commission in Colombo has also raised this matter with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Sri Lanka.
The statement said that the Government of India has always emphasized the need to resolve issues related to fishermen in a humane and humanitarian manner, taking into account livelihood concerns. The use of force is not acceptable under any circumstances. The existing consensus between the two governments in this regard should be strictly followed.
Five of the 13 fishermen on this ship have suffered serious injuries in the firing. The injured fishermen are being treated at Jaffna Teaching Hospital. The Foreign Minister said in a statement that the injured fishermen have also been admitted to the hospital. Where they are undergoing treatment. The statement of the Ministry of External Affairs said that officials of the Indian Consulate in Jaffna met the injured fishermen in the hospital and enquired about their well-being and provided all possible help to the fishermen and their families.
It is worth noting that on Tuesday, fishermen from Tamil Nadu were fishing in the sea. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan Navy opened fire on their boat. In this accident, 5 fishermen were seriously injured. There were 13 fishermen in the boat.
It is said that 13 Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on charges of crossing the international maritime border and fishing in their fishing area. The boats of these fishermen were also seized.
