Factory robots dominate China: Over 2 million machines are working, leaving even the US behind
China has surpassed the world in the field of robotics and AI. More than 2 million factory robots are now in operation. From conveyor belts to car welding, the machines are increasing production speed and reducing dependence on human workers.
China is rapidly strengthening its presence in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI). According to a recent report by the New York Times, over 2 million robots are now working in Chinese factories. Nearly 200,000 new factory robots were installed in 2024 alone. These machines perform complex tasks ranging from lifting goods on conveyor belts to welding car parts.
In contrast, only 34,000 new industrial robots were added in the US last year. While American companies may be innovating in AI and robotics, they lag far behind China in terms of machine deployment. This is why the imbalance in the global manufacturing sector is becoming increasingly apparent, and China's grip is strengthening.
China has not only increased the use of robots but also now produces approximately 60% of its own needs. Its share of global robot manufacturing has reached one-third, surpassing Japan. This growth in automation has enabled China to produce nearly one-third of the world's total output.

The use of AI alongside robots in factories is also rapidly increasing. This technology enhances machine performance and identifies the need for periodic maintenance and repairs. Meanwhile, highly skilled workers are focused on operating and integrating robots. Thanks to government policies and support, China has not only become a leader in production but also the world's largest supplier of industrial technology.
