Electric vehicles will run for devotees in Mahakumbh 2025 with easy parking through FASTag
MahaKumbh 2025: To ensure an eco-friendly traffic system during Mahakumbh 2025, the administration has decided to run 40 electric buses. Charging infrastructure has also been prepared in different parts of the city for electric vehicles.

The UP government is gearing up on a large scale for the grand organization of Mahakumbh 2025. This religious congregation will start on January 13 in Prayagraj, in which about 45 crore devotees are likely to arrive. Several vehicles will also come into the city in this Mela, which will be stretched for seven weeks, whose estimated number could be as large as around 25 lakhs. Accordingly, the administration has taken many vital steps to improve the traffic system.
The administration has decided to run 40 electric buses to ensure an eco-friendly traffic system during Mahakumbh 2025. These 12-meter-long buses run by Switch Mobility can run up to 200 km on a single charge. These buses will be operated on six major routes of the city and will provide better transport facilities to the devotees. Besides this, charging infrastructure has also been prepared for these buses in different parts of the city so that there is no problem in charging electric vehicles.
To deal with the parking problem of devotees during Mahakumbh, the administration has implemented a FASTag-based parking system. Park Plus has started FASTag parking spots with a capacity of five lakh vehicles, where devotees will be able to pay parking fees digitally. Apart from this, devotees can book parking in advance through the Park Plus app, so that they will not have any additional hassle. This initiative will not only reduce traffic jams but will also simplify the parking process.
If the devotees coming to Mahakumbh have to travel by electric vehicle, then the administration has set up charging stations for them. In these charging stations, electric cars and two-wheelers can be charged. This step has been taken keeping in mind both environmental sensitivity and convenience of devotees.
A special traffic advisory has been issued by the traffic police in view of managing the increasing congestion at the roads in the city during Maha Kumbh. Separate routes have been fixed for the devotees coming from cities like Jaunpur, Varanasi, Mirzapur, Rewa/Banda, Kanpur, Lucknow, and Pratapgarh. Besides, there will be a one-way traffic system in the Maha Kumbh Mela area, so that congestion does not happen anywhere. Traffic diversions would also be done on a real-time basis, if necessary, which would help to deal with the traffic jam situation.
