On Friday, Cyber security company CloudSEK said that cybercriminals are creating more than a thousand phishing domains per day. Many deepfake videos of prominent personalities are created to promote gaming apps like Mukesh Ambani, and Virat Kohli. CloudSEK also announced that it has opened its deep fake detection technology for all free of cost, which shall assist in identifying deepfake videos.
The CloudSEK report mentioned that in deepfake videos, fake play videos of prominent personalities are created by manipulating footage of famous news anchors. Not only the deepfake video, but the cybercrooks are creating fake play stores to lure people into downloading suspicious apps.
Over 1,000+ phishing domains or fake domains are created every day. In a recent finding, CloudSEK identified various deceptive campaigns that have been luring victims in India, Pakistan, Nigeria, and others, by showing the endorsements of prominent personalities like Mukesh Ambani, Virat Kohli, Neeraj Chopra, along with international celebrities like Cristiano Ronaldo, as their promoters for the apps.
The Centre has implemented a new system to detect and block incoming international fake calls before they reach Indian telecom customers.
This follows a string of events in which users were "digitally arrested" and threatened with cell disconnections. Cyber criminals even impersonated government authorities or law enforcement organizations, making bogus charges about drugs, narcotics, and prostitution rackets. Recently, the head of Vardhman Group was defrauded of Rs 7 crore.
