Common man's thali became 6% cheaper, relief came from the reduction in the prices of vegetables and chicken
Crisil report: Due to the reduction in the prices of vegetables and chicken, the common man's thali became cheaper by 6% in May 2025. According to the Crisil report, the vegetarian thali came down from Rs 27.80 to Rs 26.20 and the non-vegetarian thali came down from Rs 55.9 to Rs 52.6. The big fall in the prices of tomatoes, onions and potatoes was the main reason.

The common man's thali cooked at home has become cheaper by 6% due to the reduction in the prices of vegetables and chicken. According to the Crisil report, the price of a vegetarian thali came down from Rs 27.80 in May 2024 to Rs 26.20 in May this year. Due to the reduction in the price of chicken, the non-vegetarian thali also came down from Rs 55.9 to Rs 52.6.
According to the report, the price of vegetarian thali has remained almost stable every month. However, the price of non-vegetarian thali has decreased by 2%. The recent reduction in the price of vegetables helped in reducing the price of vegetarian thali. Tomato prices fell by 29% from Rs 33 per kg to Rs 23 per kg.
Last year, due to crop damage and unseasonal rains in West Bengal, the prices of onion and potato had fallen by 15% and 16%, respectively. The 19% annual increase in vegetable oil prices due to an increase in import duty and the 6% annual increase in the price of gas cylinders prevented further decline in the cost of thali. Chicken prices contribute 50% to determining the price of non-vegetarian thali.
