Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud on Saturday said the inclusion of technology in the judiciary is not only about modernization but also a strategic step towards democratizing access to justice. He said that lawyers also need to be trained to use technology.

Addressing the gathering at the inauguration of a new district court building here, he said leveraging these advancements will help in bridging the gap, increasing efficiency and ensuring that justice delivery is not hampered by geographical and technological barriers.

Highlighting the importance of District Courts, Justice Chandrachud said that they hold a vital place in securing the right to justice and are the cornerstone of the ideals of our Constitution in envisioning a society where every citizen is ensured the right to justice. is done. Talking about the new district court building in Rajkot, he described a conference room and a training room equipped with modern audio-video equipment and systems as forward-looking facilities.

CJI Chandrachud said this coincides with the hybrid and online conferencing system implemented in the courtroom of the Supreme Court. In which technologies are leveraged for the speedy delivery of justice with the changing times.

He also appealed to the Chief District Judge to ensure that lawyers are trained in the use of technology and that they should not be isolated from judges in that aspect. He said that the Supreme Court is about to commence construction of its new futuristic building with 27 courtrooms equipped with the latest technology and facilities for the stakeholders.
