Reliance Industries Rejects Reports of Russian Oil Arrival at Jamnagar Refinery

The company further stated that such reporting has damaged its reputation. RIL further stated, "We are deeply saddened that those who claim to be at the forefront of unbiased journalism chose to ignore RIL's denial of purchasing any Russian oil delivered in January and tarnished our image by publishing an inaccurate report."

This disagreement emerges at a time when the United States has sanctioned large Russian oil firms such as Rosneft and Lukoil until October 2025. Reliance has temporarily suspended the imports of Russian oil after the imposition of sanctions but later resumed the purchase of crude oil from non-sanctioned sources for the purposes of refining, according to the report. The Bloomberg report, citing Reliance's earlier denial, said the report was based on tanker tracking data from analytics firm Kpler.

According to Kpler, India's Russian oil imports fell to a two-year low in December, with a recovery expected from January.

At least three tankers loaded with Russian crude were indicating Reliance Industries Ltd.'s Jamnagar refinery on India's west coast as their next destination, according to Bloomberg, as the company resumed some purchases to supplement domestic production. The report also said that ships carrying about 2.2 million barrels of Urals crude were signaling to the Jamnagar complex and were expected to deliver their cargoes early this month, based on Kpler data.
