Onion may become cheaper by January 2024, government expects price to be below Rs 40 per kg

Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh today said the government expects onion prices to come down to below Rs 40 per kg by January 2024 from the current Rs 57.02 per kg. Only last week, the government banned the export of onions to control onion prices and maintain adequate stocks in the country.

Onion is going to become cheaper in the country soon. Consumer Affairs Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh said today that the government expects onion prices to come down to below Rs 40 per kg from the current average price of Rs 57.02 per kg by January 2024.

Just last week, the government banned the export of onion till 31 March 2024 to control onion prices and maintain adequate availability in the country.

This decision from the government came when the retail selling price of onion in Delhi crossed Rs 80 per kg and onion prices in the mandis were around Rs 60 per kg.
