India is continuously strengthening its position in the semiconductor sector, the only country to challenge China

India is continuously strengthening its position in the semiconductor sector. India is the only country that can compete with China in the semiconductor industry with a skilled workforce. The special fact is that 20% of global semiconductor design capabilities are found in the cities of Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune in India. Qualcomm's 5G chip was designed 100% in India.

Vrinda Kapoor, CEO of fabless chip maker Third iTech, said, "For decades, global technology giants have set up large R&D centres in India. This unique advantage has put the country in a position to challenge China's dominance in global semiconductor capacity, especially in defence electronics. China's share in defence electronics is expected to be 65 per cent by 2030."

At the Global Business Summit-2025 of industry body Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Kapoor said, "Despite China's rapid expansion (600 per cent growth since 2004) in defence electronics supply chains, India's vast pool of skilled engineers and designers has a significant competitive edge. However, India will fully benefit from this talent only when Indian product companies emerge and get strong support from domestic capital."
