FSSAI Sends Show-Cause Notice to Heritage Foods Over 'Fresh' and 'Healthy' Claims on Paneer Product
FSSAI has sought a seven-day response from Heritage Foods regarding its product labeling it "fresh paneer" (fresh paneer) and why action should not be initiated under the provisions of the FSS Act, 2006. Let's explore this in detail.
The FSSAI food regulatory body has issued a notice to Heritage Foods Limited for misleading claims about their product 'Fresh Paneer'. This was announced by FSSAI on Monday.
FSSAI has sought responses from the company in seven days on reasons that should not lead to action being taken against it under the FSS Act, 2006. In a social media post, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has mentioned that it has issued the notice for misleading claims about the product 'Heritage Fresh Paneer.'
The regulator stated, "The claim of 'fresh cheese' does not meet the conditions prescribed for the use of the word 'fresh' under Schedule V." FSSAI stated that, therefore, the use of the word 'fresh' may mislead consumers and is considered misleading.
