Defence Manufacturing Boom: India Achieves ₹1.78 Lakh Crore Output, Private Sector Share Rises
Defense: India's defense production has reached a record level of ₹1.78 lakh crore in the financial year 2025-26. This is an increase of 15.6 percent compared to the previous year. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has described this as a major achievement of self-reliant India.
A remarkable achievement for India in terms of defense manufacturing was witnessed in recent days. As per a report issued by the government, India has achieved a record high production of Rs 1.78 lakh crore of defense goods during the last fiscal year (2025-26).
As compared to the previous year (FY2024-25), there has been an increase of 15.6 percent in production. In the previous year, its production was at Rs 1.54 lakh crore. According to the figures provided by the Defense Ministry, production has increased by 110 percent from FY2020-21 when its output stood at Rs 84,643 crore.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh attributed this success to the inspiring leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In a post on the social media platform 'X', he praised the efforts of the Department of Defense Production, as well as the government and private sectors. He stated that this growth is a clear indication of the country's strengthening defense industrial base. Government policies, new initiatives, and increasing private sector participation will further accelerate this sector in the coming years.
