The 8th consecutive budget was delivered today by Nirmala Sitharaman, who is the Finance Minister. In it, she announced a lot of important things. She announced that strong and widespread connectivity through broadband will become a reality. Broadband connectivity will extend to all government-run schools in India. There will be a National Manufacturing Mission in which technology will be promoted for a cleaner environment. IIT Patna will also receive funding.

Electronic goods like lithium batteries and television sets will become cheaper. Apart from that, electric cars will become cheaper. Smartphones to television will become cheaper. Apart from that, all electronic goods manufactured in India will become cheaper. That is a big statement for India's industry and battery manufacturing sector. Cobalt powder, lithium-ion battery scrap, lead, zinc, and 12 other important minerals have been exempted from Basic Customs Duty (BCD) under a government decision.

Effect of this exemption

  • Boost to the electric vehicle (EV) industry: The cost of manufacturing electric vehicles (EV) will decrease as the minerals required for batteries become cheaper.
  • Boost to Make in India: Domestic battery manufacturing will be encouraged, which will strengthen the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.
  • Benefit to the renewable energy sector: Lithium-ion batteries are also used in energy storage, which will support renewable energy.
  • Help to electronics and manufacturing industry: The reduction in the cost of these minerals will also benefit electronics and other manufacturing industries.
