Australia defeated India by 5 wickets in the first ODI to take a 1-0 lead in the series

The Indian women's team has had a bad start playing three ODI series on the tour of Australia. At the Allan Border ground in Brisbane, host Australia defeated the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Team India by five wickets and took a 1-0 lead in the series. Team India, batting first, was all out for just 100 runs in 34.2 overs. In response, Australia scored 102 runs for the loss of five wickets in 16.2 overs and registered an easy win.

India got off to a very bad start after being put into bat first by the opponent's captain after winning the toss. In fact, at a meager score of just 9 runs, India lost the first wicket in the form of Smriti Mandhana on the fifth ball of the third over. Thereafter, wickets fell in regular intervals and the whole team collapsed for mere runs in 34.2 overs. Jemima Rodrigues played the highest innings of 23 runs. Apart from her, no other female batsman could even touch the figure of 20. At the same time, Megan Shut bowled brilliantly for Australia and took a five-wicket haul.

Australia, chasing the target of 101 runs made by India, got a good opening from Litchfield and Georgia Wall. A total of 48 runs for the first wicket between the two were witnessed. Litchfield became the victim of Renuka Singh after scoring 35 runs. Then, Australia lost some wickets in quick succession but eventually attained the target in 16.2 overs with five wickets in hand. Georgia scored the highest undefeated 46 runs. On behalf of India, Renuka Singh grabbed three wickets and Priya Mishra took two wickets.
