Ashwini Vaishnaw Says India’s Sovereign AI Model Is Delivering Results, Sarvam Praised Globally

Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that our sovereign model strategy is delivering results. Even the most critical critics are praising the technologically advanced model released by Sarvam as part of our AI mission.

The comment by Union Minister Vaishnaw came in response to a tweet by DD, who is a partner at MenloVentures and part of the founding team at Glean and Google Search. The comment by the Union Minister states: “Our smart young engineers are working on innovations in materials science, healthcare, and cybersecurity, which the world over will recognize as leading models.”

He further said, "In fact, DD said in a tweet on X that I was wrong about Sarvam." When I wrote about this a year ago, I thought training a small Indic language model was the wrong direction, but guys, they've done it amazingly. They have the best text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and OCR models for Indian languages, and it's truly invaluable.

Not only that, but the prices are also very reasonable. The website is not only beautifully designed but also very easy to use. They're filling a much-needed gap in the ecosystem and doing things that larger labs will probably never fully focus on (at least in the short term). DD said, "I don't know anything about their business, but I have to admire what they've built in terms of technology, and I can't remember the last time I felt this way about a software product coming out of India. It's amazing."
