Tamil actor-politician Vijay has dismissed talks of an alliance between his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam ahead of the 2026 assembly elections. He posted on X Vijay's party flagged off a report in a leading Tamil daily and said that the rumors of a tie-up with the AIADMK were completely false (and) without evidence.
Ahead of the 2026 assembly elections, Tamil actor-politician Vijay dismissed rumours that his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam might form an alliance. On X, he posted Vijay's party criticized a report in a major Tamil daily, claiming that there was no proof and that the rumours of a collaboration with the AIADMK were false.
TVK also said that it intends to contest the 2026 elections without allies, and claimed that it will win a majority "with the help of the people of the country based on the expressed positions (on behalf of Vijay)".
TVK further said, I would like to remind the people of Tamil Nadu to ignore such untrue and false news spread by some people in the guise of political commentators through media and social media, which is based on false opinions expressed spontaneously by some people.
The statement came from the party leader in his speech at the Vijay Neeti Mahotsav. He said, "The Tamil Nadu Victory League aims to establish harmony for the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu by winning on the strength of majority... with the help of the people of the country... based on the expressed positions."
Discussing the ideology of Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, actor-turned-politician Vijay had earlier stressed that his aim is not to separate Dravidian nationalism and Tamil nationalism. He said, "These are the two eyes of this country. We should not limit ourselves to any one identity." He underlined his party's foundation on the ideologies of secular social justice and said TVK would work accordingly.
