There are again concerns raised about the quality of the medicines being produced in the country. In the recent drug alert in November, the Central Drug Laboratories declared that 64 samples from different companies were non-compliant.

Furthermore, state-run labs have also labeled 141 medicines with sub-standard quality. While making this announcement on Thursday, officials in the Health Ministry said, “This inspection is a part of the regular monitoring carried out by the CDSCO.” The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization releases a list containing non-standard quality (NSQ) and counterfeit drugs on its website each month.

The list issued by drug labs is based on the standard testing done on the drugs in the market. NSQ drug samples are tested based on failures in standards. This failure is limited to the batch of drug products tested by the government laboratory, and there is no cause for concern regarding other drug products available in the market.
