Yusuf Pathan has been made the candidate from Baharampur constituency which is currently held by Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury. However, Congress has not yet declared its candidate from Baharampur.

Yusuf Pathan, a former Indian cricket player who amassed a large number of sixes and fours in the game, is planning to enter politics. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has declared Yusuf Pathan, the 2007 T20 and 2011 ODI World Cup champion, as her party's candidate for the Baharampur Lok Sabha seat. Congressman Adhir Ranjan Choudhary currently holds the seat of Baharampur. It is anticipated that Pathan will run against him in the election.

The fact that Yusuf Pathan has represented India in 22 T20 and 57 ODI matches is notable. Yusuf has amassed 810 runs—two centuries and three half-centuries—for Team India in One-Day Internationals. Yusuf Pathan has claimed 33 wickets in this format of bowling. Yusuf Pathan has played 22 T20 matches for India. During this period he has taken 236 runs and 13 wickets. Yusuf Pathan has been known for his aggressive batting on the cricket field.

Yusuf Pathan had said goodbye to international cricket in February 2021. Apart from this, Pathan was also a part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for 12 years. Bought by Rajasthan Royals in the year 2007. In the same year, a quick half-century was scored in 21 balls. At the same time, in the year 2010, while playing for Mumbai Indians, he scored a stormy century in 37 runs. In 2011 he moved to KKR. It was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2018.
