On Friday, Coco Gauff defeated Magda Linette of Poland 6-0, 6-4 in the Wuhan Open semi-finals. The American player won for the eighth time in a row in China after a one-and-a-half-hour match, and she finished the second straight season with 50 wins overall.

In order to make it to the Wuhan semifinals, where she would play either No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka or another Polish player Magdalena Frech, Gauff broke Linette's serve four times.

Four of the five break points that the American player faced in the match were saved in the opening set. In her first service game, three of them were received. The moment the match began, she broke Linette's serve.

"I am very happy with my game. Obviously the first set was easy. There were chances to win it at a score of 5-3 in the second set, but I am happy that I was able to win it on my serve," Gauff said. She is the third American player to reach the singles semi-finals in Wuhan after Venus Williams in 2015 and Alison Riske-Amritraj in 2019.

At 20 years of age, she is the youngest player to have recorded 50 or more WTA main draw wins in consecutive seasons since Caroline Wozniacki in 2009-10, according to WTA data including the two wins this year at the Olympics.
