The Indian junior women's hockey team got off to a great start to the FIH Hockey Women's Junior World Cup 2023 campaign with a stunning 12-0 win against Canada in their opening match of the tournament. For India, Mumtaz Khan scored four goals, Annu and Deepika scored three goals each, and Neelam and Deepi Monica scored one goal each. India put continuous pressure on Canada with its aggressive approach at the beginning of the match and quickly gained the lead.

Annu scored two early goals through a penalty corner in the fourth and sixth minutes of the first quarter of the match. India continued their aggressive style and kept the pressure on Canada. India's momentum from the first quarter continued in the second quarter as well. In the 21st minute of the second quarter, Deepi Monica and in the 26th minute, Mumtaz Khan scored a field goal each to increase India's lead to 4-0.

The Indian team continued its aggressive stance in the third quarter. Deepika maintained her dominance by converting a penalty corner in the 34th minute. After this, Annu completed his hat-trick by scoring a goal in the 39th minute. While Mumtaz Khan scored his second goal in the 41st minute. Apart from this, Neelam scored a goal from the penalty corner in the 45th minute, making India's score 8-0 by the end of the third quarter.
