MWC 2025: Government claims, 1.3 crore spam calls are being blocked every day
MWC 2025: To increase public awareness, the Department of Telecom has directed telecom operators to use awareness messages instead of caller tunes before the call is connected for three months. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the government is making efforts to block 1.3 crore (13 million) fake calls every day.
The Department of Telecom and the Telecom Regulatory Authority have been actively working to address the problem of spam calls. Efforts by the government to curb fraud and cheating through spurious calls have increased.
To increase awareness among the public, telecom operators have been asked by the Department of Telecom to use awareness messages in place of caller tunes before call connection for three months. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that the government has made efforts to block 1.3 crore (13 million) spurious calls a day.
During his keynote address at the Mobile World Congress held in Barcelona, Spain, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia shared information about the "Sanchar Sathi" portal. He informed that this portal is playing a big role in preventing fake calls and tracking stolen mobile devices.
He informed that so far 2.6 crore (26 million) mobile devices related to cyber fraud have been blocked through the Sanchar Sathi portal. Apart from this, 1.6 crore (16 million) stolen mobile devices have also been traced. With the help of this portal, 86 percent of spoof or fake calls have been traced and blocked. Under this initiative, 1.3 crore spam calls are being successfully blocked every day.
