Google TV Introduces Reference Model Remote With Dual-Side Solar Cells for Continuous Charging
Google TV Remote, G32 Remote: Google's new G32 solar TV remote will now charge automatically with dim light in the room. No batteries or chargers are required.
The Google TV platform has come up with a remote that doesn't need either charging or battery replacement. The new G32 remote was developed by Ohsung Electronics using indoor solar technology from Epishine.
The front and back of this remote have solar cells that convert indoor light-be it from an LED bulb, CFL, TV screen light, or even daylight-into electricity. Whether the remote lies facedown on a sofa or is placed on a table, as long as the light is on, the remote will remain charged. It features a rechargeable battery that continuously recharges itself.
Billions of disposable batteries are discarded every year, contributing to e-waste. This remote will alleviate this problem because it doesn't require any AA or AAA batteries. Epishine claims that more devices will be solar-powered in the future, such as smart thermostats, keyboards, home remotes, and IoT devices.
