Wimbledon 2026: Jannik Sinner Reaches Fifth Straight Quarterfinal, Naomi Osaka Stuns Aryna Sabalenka
Wimbledon: World No. 1 Jannik Sinner defeated Japan's Shintaro Mochizuki 6-3, 7-6(0), 6-3 in the Wimbledon 2026 pre-quarterfinals to reach the quarterfinals for the fifth consecutive time. Sinner now joins the select group of players in the Open Era to have played five grass-court major quarterfinals.
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner continued his amazing form at Wimbledon 2026, defeating the Japanese qualifier Shintaro Mochizuki 6-3, 7-6(0), 6-3 and reaching the quarters. It marks Sinner's fifth consecutive Wimbledon quarterfinal appearance. While in the same event, the Japanese tennis ace Naomi Osaka played extremely well on the Centre Court and defeated the world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-2, 7-6(2) to reach the quarters for the first time in her career.
Sinner's quarterfinal appearance is the 11th in the open era where a player reached five quarterfinal appearances in the grass courts in a Grand Slam tournament. Only Novak Djokovic managed seven times among active players.
Despite the easy-looking score line, Mochizuki put Sinner under pressure in several occasions. During the first set, Mochizuki was up by a break point, which Sinner saved and then broke him and won the set 6-3.
