Sindhu Falls to An Se-young for Ninth Time in Singapore Open QF; Indian Fights Hard in 48-Minute Battle

PV Sindhu’s impressive journey came to an end in the quarterfinals at the Singapore Open on Friday. The ace badminton player of India lost to the world’s No. 1 ranked badminton player, An Se-young, losing both games by a score of 21-17 and 21-14, failing to qualify for the semis. Two-time Olympic medalist Sindhu displayed aggressive play at times and put pressure on the Korean player. Still, An Se-young's excellent court coverage, accurate shots, and composure proved to be the key moments.

With this defeat, Sindhu's wait for victory against An Se-young has become even longer. Sindhu lost for the ninth consecutive time in their respective matches. Notably, the Indian has won only one game in these encounters, at the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships.

Sindhu came out attacking from the beginning of the first game, collecting points with her smashes and quick returns but was behind 7-11 at the mid-game break. Sindhu mounted an excellent fightback, bringing the score to 13-14. She kept the match interesting with points coming from some well-executed smashes and long rallies. The score was 17-19 at one point before two consecutive poor shots resulted in a 17-21 loss.
