Australia Announce Test Squad for Bangladesh Series; Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon Return

On Tuesday, Cricket Australia announced a 13-member squad for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, scheduled for next month. Australian captain Pat Cummins, who played his last Test match in December 2025, has returned to the team; he had been sidelined for a long period due to injury. Additionally, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have been included in the squad.

The first match of the series against Bangladesh will be played starting August 13. Spinner Nathan Lyon, who had been ruled out during the Ashes series against England due to a hamstring injury, has made his comeback. Joining him in the squad are back-up fast bowler Scott Boland and all-rounders Beau Webster and Cameron Green. The batting lineup for the Australian team-currently leading the World Test Championship-includes Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, and Jake Weatherald.

Michael Neser, Todd Murphy, and Brendan Doggett have not found a place in the squad for this tour. George Bailey, the head of the selection committee, said, "The National Selection Panel is eagerly awaiting the return of Pat Cummins, Josh, and Nathan. They have worked incredibly hard over the past few months-both individually and in collaboration with sports science and sports medicine teams-to recover from their respective injuries." Australia sits at the top of the World Test Championship standings, while Bangladesh is currently in fourth place. The first match of the series between the two teams will be played in Darwin from August 13-17, and the second match will take place in Mackay from August 22-26.
