Security forces have recovered a large number of weapons from the Churachandpur and Tengnoupal districts of Manipur. During a search operation in Old Gelmol village under the limits of Churachandpur police station, seven firearms including an AK-56 rifle and a Chinese-origin hand grenade were recovered. Security forces also conducted a search operation in the Gowajang area under the limits of Moreh police station in Tengnoupal.

Security forces recovered seven firearms and explosive materials in the Churachandpur and Tengnoupal districts of Manipur. Police have given this information. A senior officer said about the incident that during a search operation in Old Gelmol village under the limits of Churachandpur police station, seven firearms including an AK-56 rifle and a Chinese-origin hand grenade were recovered.

The police on Sunday said, "The security forces recovered at least seven firearms and explosive materials during search operations in two districts of Churachandpur and Tengnoupal".

The security forces also conducted a search operation in the Gowajang area under Moreh police station limits in Tengnoupal and recovered two IEDs weighing around 1 kg each and one improvised explosive device (IED) weighing around 5 kg. Over 250 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in ethnic violence in Manipur since May last year.

Earlier, a 7.62 mm Russian RPD machine gun and one 5.56 mm INSAS rifle were recovered in the Nungbrum and Larok Vaiphei areas under the Imphal East district. "Two more weapons and four hand grenades, two wireless radio sets with some bullets also seized from the same area".

The recovered materials include three weapons, one detonator, one IED, and bullets recovered from the Nepali Khutti area near Lamaton Thangbuh in Kangpokpi district. The security forces have been conducting search operations across Manipur ever since violence broke out in May. The violence between the two groups has left more than 250 people dead and thousands rendered homeless.
