RBI: The Reserve Bank of India said in a circular that criminals are committing fraud by misusing the mobile number of the customer. There have been incidents of fraud through voice calls and SMS as well.

The Reserve Bank of India has instructed all banks to use only the phone numbering series starting with 1600 to make transaction-related calls to customers. For promotional purposes, banks and regulated institutions will use only the numbering series starting with 140 for voice calls and SMS. This step was taken to prevent financial fraud.

Department of Telecommunications has brought in the Sanchar Saathi App to save people from fake calls and cyber fraud on mobile phones. Through this, one can report cyber fraud. If the mobile phone is lost, it can be found with the help of this app. While launching the app on Friday, Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that in this app, the privacy and security of every customer have been taken care of. The Sanchar Sathi portal, launched in 2023, proved effective. The new app will double the effort to prevent fraud.
