Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu was knocked out in the first round of the Japan Open Super 750 tournament in Tokyo on Wednesday. The 30-year-old former world champion lost 15-21, 14-21 to Korea's Sim Yu Jin, marking her fifth first-round defeat this season.

Sindhu appeared out of rhythm from the start and played many wrong shots. Meanwhile, Kim maintained full control and secured her first win over Sindhu. In the second game, Sindhu fell behind 1-6 early. Although she fought back to tie at 11-11, she couldn’t sustain the pressure, and the Korean player took a decisive lead to win in straight games.

Good news for India came from the men's doubles when the pair of Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, ranked 15th in the world, advanced to the second round by defeating Korea's Kang Min Hyuk and Kim Dong Ju 21-18, 21-10 in just 42 minutes.
