Recently, Mumbai won over the Rest of India team in the Irani Trophy. Mumbai scored 537 runs due to the important innings of 222 runs in the first innings of Sarfaraz Khan. The rest of India scored 416 runs in the first innings. The match was drawn but Mumbai was declared winner as their score was better than that of the Rest of India in the first innings.

Mumbai's Irani Cup-winning captain Ajinkya Rahane conceded that he, along with head coach Omkar Salvi, took a lot of pressure in the first session of the final day of this match against the Rest of India. The stressful situation did put them under stress, especially when the team was stuttering at 153-6.
