New WhatsApp Scam ‘Ghost Pairing’ Lets Hackers Take Over Accounts Without OTP
Ghost Pairing Scam: Scammers on WhatsApp are using a new method called 'ghostpairing' to trap users. They use the device linking feature, which users receive in a message with a link. Upon clicking this link, users are prompted for verification, which in effect gives hackers access to WhatsApp. To avoid this, keep checking the WhatsApp Link Device section and keep two-step verification turned on.
Frauds on WhatsApp are using a new technique on unsuspecting users. Experts have given this technique a name, which is ghostpairing. Frauds will use the device connecting feature on WhatsApp. Hackers will not be needed to steal passwords in this type of scam. They will not also be needed to use a SIM card and OTP, and they will be in control of their WhatsApp accounts.
All it starts with is a regular WhatsApp image. The image contains a link and a picture message that says: 'Hi. Is this your photo?' When a user opens this link, they get a preview of a post that looks as if it were from Facebook.
A phony webpage opens on the phone. This webpage is from their bank and seems authentic. To access this webpage, the user has to confirm their identity. This verification process is part of the WhatsApp Device Link, which users cannot recognize. Users are first asked to enter their phone number. They are then given a numeric pairing code, which they are asked to enter on WhatsApp.

The process appears to users as a routine security or verification process. This allows hackers to link WhatsApp to your device and gain complete access to it. They can not only read but also send messages. This can compromise both your data and privacy.
To stay safe from Ghost Pairing scams, you need to be vigilant. Users should regularly check the WhatsApp Linked Devices section. If you see any unknown devices here, remove them immediately.
If you receive a message requesting you to enter a pairing code, scan a QR code, or verify your account, be cautious.
Always keep two-step verification on your WhatsApp account. This adds another layer of security to your account. Most importantly, click any WhatsApp link with caution.
